DRIVE YOU HOME

A Songbook Design that Collected 40 Original Album Covers “Drive You Home”

Intentions:
Songbook "Drive You Home" is an evocative graphic design venture embarked upon in Design/Media Arts 25: Typography at UCLA. This project, which spanned over an intense 10-week period, is deeply personal, capturing the emotions and stories of 40 distinctive album covers I conceived. Each week was a dive deep into the world of typography, with two focused classes demanding the creation of five new album cover designs. This challenging rhythm not only honed my design skills but also underscored the discipline needed to consistently produce quality work within tight constraints.
My fundamental muse for this project was the Bodoni typeface, chosen for its timeless elegance and adaptability. While the course began with the restriction of using only a 12-point size, as weeks progresses, the opportunity to explore different font sizes, thickness, italics, and colors opened a world of possibilities. The song "Drive You Home" resonated deeply with me, capturing the emotional roller coaster of my past romantic relationship. Every album cover, therefore, is not just a piece of design but a snippet of our shared story. Through Bodoni's strokes, I attempted to paint the highs and lows, the joys and sorrows, and the memories that linger on. Each cover, while rooted in my personal narrative, is a testament to the universal language of love and loss. They range from minimalistic expressions of fleeting moments to intricate portrayals of profound emotions, reflecting the myriad ways love can be experienced and remembered.
Using the medium of typography, I invite you to feel the emotions, resonate with the stories, and embark on this intimate journey with me, guided by the notes of "Drive You Home" and the strokes of Bodoni.
